The Flight Experience

Strapped into the captain’s seat, you await permission from the Air Traffic Control before pushing the thrust levers all way to maximum sending the Boeing 737-800 speeding down the runway. At the point of no return, you pull back the stick lifting the giant aircraft into air. Whether you are an aviation enthusiast or just a thrill-seeker, Flight Experience is your chance to earn your pilot wings without actually getting off the ground.

The PS3.5 Series Simulators used here are high fidelity, full replicas of the Boeing 737-800, the best-selling commercial jet in history, and include a revolutionary Visual System including High Definition projection onto a 180 degree wrap-around curved screen. They have also been approved by CASA (Civil Aviation Safety Authority) in Australia for Pilot Training and the experience is realistic enough to give one a genuine feel for what it must be like for a pilot.

The whole setup is very realistic with staff members dressed up as crew. Prior to taking command, a flight instructor takes you through a quick run-through, after which you select from a database of 24,000 the airport you want to fly in and out of. The choices include the white-knuckle approach of Hong Kong’s Kai Tak that skims the tops of buildings, or, Bhutan’s short, 17,000-ft mountain peak surrounded runway, to a windy Wellington touchdown.

Belted in, you go through the same motions any pilot would do in reality, from steering away from the gate into takeoff position to making announcements like “Cabin crew, take your positions for takeoff.”

In the air with your wheels retracted, you continue to manage airspeed, maintain altitude, keeping the plane on course with advice from the instructor. When it’s time to land, flick on the “fasten seatbelts” sign before you busy yourself with controlling the craft’s rate and speed of descent, adjusting the flaps, and extending the landing gear.

The range of packages cater to everyone from the complete novice to more experienced fliers and suitable for families (the recommended minimum age is 10), couples and small groups.
