The city’s newest shop ‘til you drop venue stretches 300 metres along the Chao Phraya River and fills the immense gap left by the closure of the Suan Lum Night Bazaar. The main archway dates back over 100 years as the place was once Bangkok’s first international trading port set up in by King Rama V in the 1900s. Its present day name is a tip of the hat to the Danish company, The East Asiatic Company Ltd that helped construct the port.

Divided into four zones, Asiatique offers over 1,500 boutiques and 40 restaurants are spread through huge warehouse complexes that reflect the once-bustling port’s architecture. The small attractive boutiques in the Charoen Krung District sell souvenirs, handicrafts, jewellery and clothing that suit most pocketss. Check out Qualy for quirky homeware that is practical as well. Or, bag boutique, Be Myself that stocks eye-catching canvas and leather totes, chunky watchstraps, keyrings and wallets.

AsiatiqueThe Factory District showcases cutting-edge fashion and upscale stores like the iStudio Apple store, while the Waterfront area houses trendy dining outlets that serve up Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Italian cuisine, plus the usual fast food outlets.

On most weekends DJs and live bands pump up the vibe, but the biggest entertainment draw is the Joe Louis Puppet Theatre and the Calypso Cabaret, the city’s famous transvestite show. With friends or family, Asiatique is a great place for an evening of entertainment, shopping and dining.
