For some it’s just another night out with friends or family, for others it is a treasure trove of all things vintage. A popular hangout with the city’s hip and stylish, this market gets its name from its location in an old train depot; in Thai, “Talad” means market and “Rot Fai” means train. Set up by antique aficionados Thanayut ‘Troy’ and Khun Phirot, the mostly outdoor market only open on the weekends, features hundreds of vendors selling all things vintage and then some.

At one stall a naked light bulb spotlights an assortment of toys popular in the 80s, another showcases home décor including vintage lamps, clocks and Bakelite telephones. As they say one man’s trash is another’s treasure and the hundreds of vendors sell everything from retro sunglasses, suitcases, and sneakers to license plates from various American states, dolls, clothes, bar signs, vintage merchandise from a variety of brands, and even cassette tapes. The huge warehouses at the back are filled with retro furniture, antiques, classic cars and bikes, paintings and sculptures. You are sure to find something that you want.

Classic Volkswagen Bugs and Vans have been modified into mobile stalls or in some cases bars serving cold beers or cheap cocktails. And if you are feeling peckish, there’s plenty of local street food stands, or take a load of your feet and pop into one of the many cafés with a live band.
