Established in 1982 as a UN-funded NGO named the Vegetable Dye Society, Aranya is today a self-sufficient fair trade enterprise. The organization is credited with helping to revive Bangladesh’s natural dye industry. You’ll find clothing, jewellery, fabrics and textiles in a range of colourful patterns. Made with ecologically sound natural dyes and techniques, Aranya’s products continue to impress customers and retailers here and in the UK, France, Japan and India. An eclectic mix of indoor and outdoor shops, New Market is the oldest commercial shopping plaza in Dhaka. Uncover surplus export stock of famous label clothing at rock-bottom prices! New Market was completed in 1954 and originally featured a central park, but a mosque has long since replaced it.

Inside, there are three floors of shops. The outdoor section has a mix of ground-level vendors and food stalls. You’ll find everything from luggage to art supplies at prices that are both fixed and negotiable.
