Aspire Park in Doha Qatar

Hidden away behind Villaggio, one of Doha's most popular shopping malls, lies a massive green oasis, which is a rare sight in this part of the world. Aspire Park is a surprisingly huge and super-lush park (the biggest in town) which isn't classified as a tourist attraction as such. However, it stands as a grand contrast to the typical surrounding desert landscape and is a rare gem to admire and experience whilst in Doha.

This is a sport-minded park which couldn t be located anywhere other than Sports City, better known as Aspire Zone, which is considered the ultimate sporting destination of the Middle East. Here, the 2006 Asian Games took place and you can check out the famous sports venues Khalifa Stadium, Aspire Dome and the impressive Hamad Aquatic Centre.

Aspire Park encourages fitness and unique outdoor activities, but also represents a great place for families and friends to spend quality time together, away from the noisy and congested roads.

You'll be able to enjoy a good walk or jog, over its 88 hectares, which offers all possible amenities: children's playground area, football pitches, fountains and plenty of different types of trees and even bird sounds played through speakers to keep you feeling at one with nature.

The only lake in Qatar can be admired here too with plenty of ducks and fish, while enjoying a nice coffee in the cafe nearby. Or simply sit on the hill and relax. Whether you are exercising or just meandering, remember that even in this park there is a dress code. So ladies, no skimpy clothes with your knees or shoulders exposed.

Another recreational attraction by the park is The Torch Tower, which is an ashonishing 300 metre high building. It served as a giant torch for the 15th Asian Games and is a super modern hotel nowadays. A visit inside is definitely worth it: check out its modern interiors, the panoramic swimming pool on the 19th floor and why not finish the day off at the 360 rotating restaurant on the very top to enjoy the view of the whole of Doha by night.
