Doha Golf Club, home to the famous Qatar Masters, is a key Middle Eastern venue in the golfing world and a regular with the European and Asian tours. Designed in the mid 1990s by Peter Harradine, one of the world's leading golf courses architect, Doha Golf Club was the first grass course to be sown in Qatar with 6,000 trees and 5,000 shrubs planted, and 10,000 cacti imported from Arizona to transform a barren desert into lush fairways.
The result is very simply impressive: a 7,312 yard 18 hole Championship Course aimed at experienced players, a 9 hole Academy Course with stunning views of West Bay Lagoon ideal for beginners and ladies, 8 artificial lakes, a beautiful Arabic style clubhouse and spectacular green landscaping, which provides a spectacular contrast to the desert that lies beyond.
Each of the 18 holes of the Championship Course varies dramatically in character but they are all great for long-hitters: the most challenging ones are the 9th (581 yards) and the 18th (634 yards). A tough course to test the most skilled player. The Academy Course instead is less demanding: it measures 2,844 yards with larger fairways and shorter holes, so ideal for less experienced players or great for a quick round after work and play till late.
Mild winters and scarce rainfall in the Gulf region means year round play and endless sunny days, no wonder Doha is becoming increasingly popular as a winter sun destination for golfers in particular.
Open to members and non-members, Doha Golf Club is the perfect spot to unwind at weekends with family and friends. Kids can wander around while adults can enjoy a glass of wine and snacks in a serene setting. The family-friendly restaurant is very popular at week-ends for brunch, so is advisable to book in advance to secure a table. The outside seated area is a rare find in town, so opt for the terrace to admire the pond, green grass and trees...the desert will seem miles away. This green oasis in Doha is the perfect location to do something different at the weekend in good company while improving and challenging your golf techniques with your kids, partner or colleagues.
Professional coaching at all levels through individual, group, junior packages and golfing programs are on offer too. Plenty of fun to be had, whatever your age!
