Mansion House

Mansion House

Galle has been a trader’s town for centuries. Today, you’ll still be able to find a great bargain somewhere in the numerous shops and boutiques that have sprung up within the walls of the old Galle Fort. One of those places is the Mansion House, or Mansion Arts and Crafts shop as it is also referred to.

Not to be mistaken for the Historical Mansion Museum on Layn Baan Street, the Mansion House is actually a branch of the aforementioned museum. This shop, located on Church Street is just a short walk from the old Dutch Reformed Church.

You will find colourful and exotic beachwear, trendy summer dresses, accessories and even jewellery sets embedded with precious stones and gems. You could also purchase items that are made in-store by local craftspeople, such as intricately designed traditional ‘beeralu’ lace.

If you are planning on taking something home, there is a fine selection of Ceylon Tea and a variety of local spices, a perfect gift and a great way to remember Sri Lanka’s unique flavour. With a wide variety of items under one roof, Mansion Arts and Crafts is ideal shopping stop for the busy traveller.
