Golf

Golf

For the avid golfer, Hua Hin is the perfect place to tee off. It has the highest concentration of world-class golf courses anywhere in Thailand and you will be spoilt for choice.

The oldest one, and also the first ever course in Thailand, is the Royal Hua Hin Golf Course that was designed by Scottish railway engineer O A Robbins and opened in 1924.

The 18 holes with a par 72, has no real water hazards, but thousands of trees (some a hundred years old) line the fairways which are rather narrow in place, and the slight elevation of most greens will test most golfers.

Cycling

Cycling

A great way to see Hua Hin and the surrounding countryside is from the saddle of a bike. Hua Hin Bike Tours offers all-inclusive quality bicycle tours every day of the week that can be customised to each group’s needs and expectations.

The owner, Christopher Byrd, a former US Marine, was the brains behind the 1st Annual Tour de Thailand in 2003, when he completed a 3,200 km solo bicycle journey from Hat Yai to Chiang Rai, and the 1st Annual Tour de Isaan Charity Bicycle Ride from Nong Khai to Ubon Ratchathani.

First timers to the seaside town would benefit from the “Half-day Historic Hua Hin” ride that covers most of the main attractions.

Kiteboarding

Kiteboarding

With Hua Hin’s sedate pace of life, it may seem an unlikely spot for extreme sports like kiteboarding (or kitesurfing, as it is called in some parts of the world).

But with shallow waters and a six-kilometre long sandy beach that has been the venue for the Intercontinental Kiteboarding World Cup since 2010, it is the best place in Thailand to ride the wind along with a group of friends. And the best place to learn how to do it is at the Hua Hin Kitesurfing School.

Affiliated to the world’s biggest skateboarding school, Kiteboarding Asia, novices can choose from a one-day Discovery programme, the three-day beginner’s course, or opt for private lessons.
