Five Island Long-Tail Boat Tour in Koh Samui

Due southwest of Samui lie its neighbours, the Five Islands. In Thai, they are known as Ko Si Ko Ha, which translates as Four Islands-Five Islands, as one of them is hidden behind another. The islands, covered with stunted trees clinging to their rocky slopes, are home to thousands of swifts that build their nests on rocky outcrops that are collected by climbing precarious bamboo ladders. The nests eventually end up in pricey bird’s nest soup in Hong Kong and China. The traditional long-tail boat, tricked out for comfort with sofa seating and a canopy against the sun, leaves from the Five Islands Restaurant on Taling Ngam.

The tour takes in caves, hidden beaches, limestone pinnacles, and the remote dwellings of the security guards stationed there to keep away poachers form the nests. A stop on the way back allows for the snorkeling in the crystal clear waters of Koh Tan. The tour, which heads out twice a day, ends back at the restaurant for a meal of local delicacies and cocktails, and a stunning sunset if you opt for the afternoon trip. Perfect for families, groups or even as a tour for two.
