Koh Tan/Koh Mudsum
Koh Tan/Koh Mudsum in Koh Samui

Only a few hundred metres off the island’s southwestern coast lies Koh Tan. Easily reached local long tail boat, this small island is the perfect place to spend a day on the beach. The reef surrounding it is home to fan coral, giant clams and a wide variety of fish. A wooden walkway at one end allows visitors a glimpse of the mangrove forests. There are no vehicles on the island but a short trek to the main village inland is recommend for the seven-metre whale skeleton. Nor are there any dogs on the island as local legend has it that any dog brought there will go mad, howl and quickly die.

Just south of Koh Tan is Koh Mudsum, another popular spot for a day trip with some great beaches and snorkeling spot. It also features some granite cliffs overhanging the sea that are good for kayaking.

TK Tour offers day trips for families, groups and couples that include snorkeling equipment and lunch and their boats leave from Thong Krut harbour.
