Magic Buddha Garden

Magic Buddha Garden
Magic Buddha Garden in Koh Samui

Huge stone animals stalk prey, apsaras stand frozen in dance, while elsewhere deities sit in meditation and musicians play silently amid tropical bushes and flowers. Located at the highest point on Samui, this oddball garden is the creation of local fruit farmer Nimm Thongsuk, who wanted to bequeath something beautiful to the next generation.

Getting to it is an adventure in itself with several viewpoints offering panoramic views of the southern end of the island. Cool and tranquil, the garden is shaded by thick jungle growth and has a waterfall and stream flowing through it. Scattered around are sculptures and statures of all shapes and sizes, depicting depict Buddhist and Thai folklore, culture, and fables. Its apparent randomness gives it a mystical air and hidden corner and paths throw up surprises. The best part is the area filled with angels, musicians and dancers, behind with lies the tomb of the creator and his wife. Go with the family or a group of friends.
