Fisherman’s Village Walking Street

Fisherman’s Village Walking Street
Fisherman’s Village Walking Street in Koh Samui

The charming Fisherman’s Village is home to elegant and well-preserved wooden Chinese shop-houses that have been transformed into cool cafes, restaurants, shops and guesthouses. Come Friday night and street vendors converge on the tiny lanes hawking everything from cocktails to souvenirs. Mobile bars at intervals peddling beer and tasty tropical concoctions allow one to re-fuel on the go. There’s plenty to eat too, from food on a stick to spring rolls, fried chicken, kebabs and even one-dish meals cook ala minute. But it’s not all about food and drink here. At the junction near the pier, local artists perform traditional music and dance but the occasional beat-boxer, and fire dancer also features. It’s also the place to pick some souvenirs or gifts for people back home without breaking the bank. Think handcrafted soaps, organic cosmetics, jewellery made from real orchids and butterflies, wooden products, art, flipflops, tee shirts and much more. There are some knock-offs on sale, but you are guaranteed to find something original as well. And while there are other walking streets at Maenam on Thursday and Nathon on Sunday, this one at Bophut expresses the island vibe best. It’s suitable for families and groups, but couples will also enjoy a stroll through.
