Phra Nang Cave

Phra Nang Cave
Phra Nang Cave in Krabi

A short boat ride from Railay Beach is Phra Nang Beach, a secluded stretch of sand also accessible by a precarious cliff-side walk. Here at the base of a soaring cliff is the small cavern known as Princess or Diamond Cave. For a nominal fee, one can walk along a boardwalk into it where the rock formations glitter liked they are studded with diamonds. There is also a shrine there filled with carved wooden phallic sculptures of all sizes. Fishermen have been coming here since ancient times to make offerings to the symbolic phallus of the Hindu God, Shiva, before heading out to sea; women also come to pray for fertility too.

Phra Nang Cave in Krabi

Many legends surround the origins of this cave: one tells of an Indian princess, who was killed in a shipwreck and her spirit occupies the cave. Another one is of the wife of local fisherman who began living in the cave waiting for her husband to come back from sea. For couples and groups of friends.
