The waters around Krabi are home to a diverse collection of marine life with over 200 different species of fish and 80 types of coral. There are plenty of diving and snorkeling tours on offer, but one of the best is Kon-tiki. In addition to the usual trips, they also offer PADI and Pro courses, technical diving, and liveaboards. Their ‘snorkelling safari’ is a good choice for couples, groups of friends or families looking for a casual daytrip around the waters of Krabi. After a transfer from the hotel to the boat, which cruises through the Ao Nang archipelago to Bamboo Island, home to one of the country’s largest reefs. Clear water makes it easy for snokellers to get a glimpse of life underwater. Depth here varies between two to four metres, with reef extending to the size of four football fields.

The second stop is either at Hin Klai or Monkey Bay both, which have a large variety of coral and marine life such as barracuda, snappers, boxfish, and pufferfish. The final stop is Koh Yung before heading back to Ao Nang. A great feature of the trip is that you can dive even if you don’t have PADI certification; this is especially useful for those who just want to try it out. The dives are done with a private instructor whose only job is to keep you safe as you enjoy the underwater world for the first time.
