Mata Hari Restaurant in Pattaya

A spectacular crystal sculpture dominates the dining room where ’30s Art Deco meets Colonial for a stylish yet casual ambience at this much acclaimed dinner-only restaurant that has been a staple on the Pattaya fine dining scene since it opened doors in 1996. Fronted by the gracious Louis Noll, with the kitchen manned by talented wife Jackie, it has acquired a following among expats and visitors for its top-notch service, consistent quality and value for money. It makes for a great place to celebrate an anniversary or just for night out with friends.

There’s much to choose from the extensive menu that embraces both traditional European fare and Thai favourites, while specialties like the bitterballen, smoked eel, and green pea soup are a nod to Noll’s Dutch heritage.

Garlic prawns with tomato and chillies sets the ball rolling nicely with plump prawns in sauce that offers a hit of spice at the end. Other starter options include the crispy Whitebait fritters, the luscious Pata Negra jamon Iberico, or the warm goat’s cheese salad with honey vinaigrette and walnuts that comes with a whole wheel of the cheese, black grapes, raspberries, strawberries, walnuts, quail eggs and a bouquet of quality salad leaves. Continue with the light and easy ‘Mediterranean fish soup served with crunchy garlic croûtons’ or, head straight to the mains. Standouts here are the Steak Diane, thin beef fillets with whisky and garlic sauce; the inspirational pan-fried crab crusted red snapper fillet, and the sublime Ossobuco aromatici. Those with a sweet tooth shouldn’t leave without sampling both the dark and white chocolate mousse and warm sticky date pudding with honey ice cream and caramel sauce.

Their extensive wine cellar offers a great selection from both the Old and New Worlds, or let the bartender concoct an exotic cocktail for you.
