With an ocean-front location and extensive Thai seafood menu it’s little wonder Moom Aroi, which translates as “delicious corner”, is well populated by locals and considered one of the best seafood restaurants in Pattaya.
The two-storey building, down a quiet lane in the Naklua area, hugs the shoreline and offers indoor and outdoor seating. Out on the wooden deck is best place with the dark expanse of the ocean dotted by anchored fishing boats in front and the neon light show of Pattaya on the left; the salt-tinged breeze blowing in from the ocean, offering diners a multi-sensory experience while they gorge on freshly caught crab, lobster, shrimp and a wide variety of fish.
The menu is a large file folder filled with pages and pages (and photographs) of specialities from the different regions of Thailand. Steamed, fried, or barbecued, take your pick. The tom yam with giant prawns, stir-fried squid with salted egg yolk, som tam on fried sea bass, scallops with garlic, crab with yellow curry are headliners here and come with a variety of dipping sauces for a spice kick. Cool the fire in your mouth with their freshly made ice creams that come in mango, coconut, cantaloupe, peach, grape and toddy palm.
A live band provides entertainment every evening, playing a range of contemporary Thai and Western chartbusters, as well trips down memory lane. Better suited to suited to families and groups, be warned though, this place gets jam-packed, so do make reservations.
