This truly unique show is performed at a natural amphitheater created by a curve in the Li River. Just a ten-minute drive (thirty-minute walk) outside Yangshuo Town, watching Liu San Jie is a pleasurable way to spend an evening.
Yimou, a Chinese director known for his choreography of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Opening Ceremony, has created a performance based on a local legend. Under his creative genius, hundreds of dancers perform the story using the mountains as a backdrop and the river as a stage.
Many elements of the local culture help illustrate the legend including cormorant fisherman with live birds, hundreds of singers in their colourful, traditional clothing and bamboo raft guides dancing on the river.
Ticket prices vary but all seats provide a good view. There are two shows nightly.
