Moon Hill is one of the most iconic images of the Yangshuo region. Carved naturally from wind and water, the arch creates the image of a half-moon. Hiking to the top for the view is one of the most popular activities for visitors.
Signs at the bottom of the trail advise there are 800 steps to the top section of the hike. You can have fun and count to see how accurate the information is. The main path is paved so it is a relatively easy hike and the climb is shaded under bamboo groves and tall trees.

This breathtaking view awaits hikers on Moon Hill.

Carved out of the karst mountainside over hundreds of years, Moon Hill’s natural arch resembles a half-moon.
There are two main viewing areas at the top on either side of the natural archway. A few drink vendors will be waiting there with their coolers to sell you a welcome cold drink. In total, the climb takes about one hour to the top.
Moon Hill is approximately 30-minutes by bicycle out of Yangshuo Town following the way to Gaotian Town and is clearly marked. A small entrance fee is required to make the hike; but visitors should note the entrance to Moon Hill can be bought together with the Big Banyan Tree entrance ticket for a small discount.
