An interesting aspect of the limestone mountains is that they are very susceptible to the formation of caves. Water movements through the mountains over millennia has carved out hundreds of caves in the region and there are many which are open to visitors. The caves are well maintained and have guardrails, lights and paved pathways.
Visitors to caves follow a one-way path through the underground terrain which iscool and damp. You’ll go from narrow passageways to enormous caverns filled with fantastic stalactites and stalagmites hanging from the roof and anchored on the ground.
The mineral waters of the Yangshuo region are purported to have healing properties and to this end, if you’re feeling adventurous, you can have a mud bath or soak in a few of the baths. There are showers to rinse off after soaking and swimsuits can also be purchased at the cave entrance.
